To be released (For middle grade readers): October 2024
Spirit of the Warriors is a fiction story that taps into authentic themes that are so relevant for middle-grade readers (and all the rest of us for that matter!). The story is layered with compassion, empathy, resilience, multiculturalism, and a compelling mix of independence and teamwork that all ultimately combine to capture the strength of human spirit.
‘I wanted to tell a story which encourages readers to jump into the pages and see themselves among the characters, settings, and situations. The book is rich with senses, and it’s no surprise I’ve dug into my own experiences—some of them, very personal— to make this happen,’ says best-selling author, James Knight.
James, an award-winning television reporter who has covered several Australian cricket tours, was raised in Gunnedah, country New South Wales. India has become his “second home” after he first visited the cricket-mad country to cover the 1996 World Cup. These days he regularly visits schools (in Australia and overseas) to conduct writing and storytelling workshops. He often uses sport as a connection-point to encourage young people to explore and develop their literacy skills and find their voices.
Spirit of the Warriors is the first book in a planned series that will use sport to promote multicultural awareness.
The book will be available at your favourite independent bookstore and online.
