What person are you talking about?
To begin this exercise, please have a look at the photo of the leaves, and read the following:
She worked hard to sweep the leaves into their spot. Then she took a breath before she began again. Sweeping, sweeping, always sweeping. If only she could be somewhere else, but this was her corner, her role. Of course, she didn’t have to work every day, but when she did, it was always the same. Sweeping, sweeping, always sweeping. She felt old and tired. How long could she go on this way? The harsh truth was…there was no way out.
Now, look at this video clip, but keep thinking about the above description and the images that come to your mind.
Just re-capping the video: when we describe something non-human (like the wind) in a human way, we call this PERSONIFICATION. It can be very useful in helping the audience to connect with the images you are writing or speaking about.
Right, here are the photos that featured in the video. What can you ‘personify’ in them? There’s no need to write a lot. Just a couple of sentences or a short paragraph will do. If you want to, you could also write about the leaves in the video, or perhaps you could personify both the leaves and the wind? Maybe the leaves are mischievous children who don’t want to sit still? Go on, have fun exploring and experimenting.
