In the beginning

So, here we are. You and me. Me and you. Us. That makes me want to wag my tail. Hang on a minute, I might just do that right now… WAGGEDY- WAG-WAG-WAG-WAG. Ooooh that felt so good! It’s like rubbing my back against the neighbour’s bush in their front yard when the bosses take me for walks. How many bushes have you scratched your back against? It’s one of the best feelings in the world. That’s what Bald Boss says anyway. He said to me the other day when he saw me scratching against the bush: ‘That must be one of the best feelings in the world, Roger.’ I know he is right, even if I don’t know what the world is. Do you know what it is? I hope I find out one day.

I thought I should tell you a little bit about me. I was named Roger by Boy Boss. The other bosses wanted to call me other things, like Guapo which means ‘handsome’ in a language from Spain, and Cotopaxi, which is a mountain in Ecuador. I think Spain and Ecuador are very far away from where I live. Maybe I passed them on the big trip I took when Boy Boss and Big Boss and Grandma picked me up from where I was born. We drove from daylight into night-light to get to my new home. Here is a photo of me driving to my new home.

My favourite part of the picture is the seat-belt. It is great to chew on. But Big Boss said I shouldn’t do that. She said to me the other day: ‘Roger, don’t chew the seat-belt!’ But I still try to do it when I can. I know I shouldn’t but my teeth tell me to do it. They tell me to chew everything in sight. So I do.When I got to my new home I chewed Bald Boss’s tracksuit pants and Boy Boss’s ugg boots, and Big Boss’s watch strap, and Grandma’s hand, and oh dear I have got into trouble. My life has been full of ‘Noooooo-don’t-do-thats.’ But I do do thats. Because I’m a dog. And dogs are doers. Do you have teeth? I am losing some of mine. Bald Boss says if I am good a tooth hairy (or something like that) might leave a coin under my bed. I hope I can chew it.

I’m tired.

I need a sleep.
